Lynn Sisler’s work envisions a compassionate mindset of communing in the world visually through paint, clay, and a variety of other materials. Foraging from childhood memories, everyday life experiences, the local landscape, and folklore-like storytelling, she imagines the Others (non-human creatures) telling their tales.

“I work predominantly in painting and clay sculptures, foraging from the emotional, textural, and personal interactions of the world around me. Natural materials are often directly imprinted into the work; found while gardening, hiking in the forest, and walking on a lake or ocean shoreline. My studio practices translate into expressive, creative imagery that conveys visual stories of the world around me. These interpreted narratives feature animals, plants, and humans, often blended as one entity, in a magical, folkloric construct. My work strives to create thoughtful consciousness about cycles, humans’ relationship to the Earth, and the interconnectedness within all species.”

In researching the ecology and folklore histories of fauna and their flora companions, I am able to create artwork embedded with meaningful stories about relationships.

My artistic motivation, in part, is to provoke the viewer and elicit a reverence for the natural world by evoking the ancient bond of coexistence and connection between humans and Others.
